A Personal Note
From Our Family To Yours
Lake Jocassee is an area rich in history. Long before its ancient mountain gorges were flooded to create Lake Jocassee, its river valleys were home to the Cherokee Indians. During the birth of our nation, European settlers came to the area seeking a better life, and heroes of the American Revolution fought on its soil for our country's independence. Today, Lake Jocassee is a treasured jewel- its natural beauty forever preserved by thousands of acres of state-protected wilderness that surrounds its shorelines.
Our family's story first became interwoven into the rich tapestry of Jocassee history when Bill Masters- the visionary behind The Jocassee Club- began coming here during his youth. Bill hiked and explored the forests and mountains that are now covered by the pristine, crystalline waters of Lake Jocassee- often referred to as the "Lake Tahoe of the East."
Years ago, Bill was able to acquire some of the rare private land that became available and eventually built the Masters family's mountain lake home using reclaimed 150 year old barn timbers. It is here that the Masters family has spent many summers, vacations, and weekends exploring and discovering the never ending wonders of the area. The Jocassee Club is Bill's vision of preserving the rich history of this mountain sanctuary for the benefit of future generations.
The directives used to create The Jocassee Club were simple: bring future families together in an exquisite setting, and create a haven of lasting history worthy of the place in which it has been built. Bill's attention to detail combined with his personal home building experience on Lake Jocassee, allowed his team to create a world class legacy estate envisioned to last for hundreds of years. A signature architect, certified engineering, soil testing, hands on attention to detail, and warmth in design and decorating have all helped create The Whitewater Lodge and Bear Camp Cottage, the first of four possible fractional ownership estate homes at The Jocassee Club. Complete with its own guest cottage, all the infrastructure for future estate homes is in place– making the Jocassee Club a true turn-key estate.
The Masters' vision for the Jocassee Club is one of Family Legacy and of preservation, where generations of family and close friends gather to share a lake, a land, and the heritage of community in one of the last great, unspoiled spaces in the country- Lake Jocassee.
From our family to yours, welcome to The Jocassee Club.
